I met Jake and Dan in New Orleans on January 5th. I was visiting from New York on vacation and knew no one in New Orleans. I count them amongst a small number of people who were very friendly and welcoming while I was there. In the brief time I spoke with Jake he was very kind and warm as was Dan. I was blown away by these two people who not only found each other but also were sophisticated entrepreneurs doing something cool in their home state. My heart broke this morning reading about what happened. My prayers are with Dan, Jake’s family, the Howdy Bagel community and everyone who cares for them.
-George Blair
My heart sank when I heard this story. I rarely donate, but situations like this I believe it’s what I needed to do to support my LGBT+ community.

We loved Howdy Bagel from all the way across the country (OH) and made a point of going every time we were in Washington. Jake and Daniel created such a beautiful establishment in terms of not only the food they provided, but for the safe space and welcoming environment to all. Jake's passing is devastating and he will be missed dearly - but amidst the pain felt by the community, may his husband/family/loved ones rest assured that he and Daniel made a difference to a lot of people and will be remembered for that.
-VeganGuysFromOhio
Been to Howdy only 3 or 4 times but felt I already was getting to know Jake and Daniel since they were so friendly. So saddened for Daniel and the team there.
-James Truitt
While I don’t know Jake or Daniel personally, my brother and his husband have met them several times and visited Howdy Bagel on numerous occasions. They told me about them, and I started following them on Instagram. It was such a great story, and wonderful to see these amazing guys find success. We were absolutely shocked by the news and hope Daniel can somehow find peace in knowing that he has so many people looking out for him. We are also thinking of all the employees at Howdy Bagel. Hopefully they can find a way to continue Jake’s legacy.
-Tracie Anderson
